Re: 20 years in PC gaming - name your favourite
Bioshock (not shocking, boring ) and bioshock two are the same game!
The entire survival horror genre is populated almost entirely by uninspired shit.
Clumsy combat mechanics, samey grey levels and ridiculous plots. The genre needs innovation, in my opinion you shouldn't be able to/want or need to win fights in horror games. They should be able to create a world that is interesting enough, without the need for samey gun fights. As to the idea of shock in games, I'm not sure what you mean I hope you don't want the over gorey torture porn that's filled the majority of horror films for the past few years, personally I would hate to see that in games.

Cashnexus wrote:Hmm, I got that in the Steam sale but it controlled really badly with keyboard/mouse, and didn't work with my 360 pad. Which controls did you use? Looks like a really interesting game.
I changed the original settings to adws on the left response ring and mouse movement to the right. Being a warband addict the mouse movements are just like blocking and shouldn't be too hard. Maybe that's why I actually never made a single mistake
For some reason I can hold shift, "w" and "a" and thereby run to the left, but shift+"w"+"d" doesn't work on my keyboard :/ So I usually hold down both mouse buttons and shift for those long distances. But that's really the only thing that bugged me about the control scheme.

Dude, I don't have the stomach for it... Such games make me nervous, even how good they are. Just to mention another one... "dead space"... my heart jumped up to my forehead just the first trailer they showed dammit!

Valarya wrote:A game without any shocking moments misses something! :/ I mean it works... but a dark setting needs shocking moments. And in Bioshock they were kept low... I think. Bioshock 2 had quite a bit. And Stalker had them, even though it not intended to. Its just those nasty animals jumping at you without you seeing em.. but yeah.... lets summarize:
Subway Tunnels+Darkness+Demons+Post apocalypse =
Alot, lot, lot of shock moments.
Just imagine. You see / hear beasts in a dark room...your flashlight and a little fire are the only lightsources in the room. THen your flashlight turns off, its pitch black, you only see a tiny bit via the fire wich is in some corner. And noises get louder. I mean.. thank god its no Xbox360/PS3 game. I tend to throw the controllers away. PLUS when I put my hands of the mouse (For somereason this feels safer) I can still hit ESC on the PC. Console: Throwing the Controller away...you have to watch it
I saw the previews on it when it was in dev, is it out?
I used to read its going to be extremely demanding in terms of system resources, must check if my specs (no not me and spec ) are up to it.
its definitely a go grab.

Pacifist! x'D I mean.. when there is a bad ass monster / zombie / maniac and I cant fight him? Where am I? :] Running away would be boring in my opinion. Sure, you could add it in some parts of a game.. but just running away the whole game? Hiding? It would seriously drive me to boredoom. Hmhm.

100% not. I'm grossed out fairly easily. Plus I get nightmares from gore-like stuff. I think developers add alot of blood / severed limbs to survival horror, because it feels even more creepy then. If a pink teddybear jumps and you, you may get startled but you laugh. If a headless zombie jumps at you, you prolly get more shocked. I think a good horror game should give me a paranoia feeling, even if I'm out of the game (and yes that happens x.x) and it needs to make me nervous in game. This happens rarely. Never happened in Bioshock for example. I mean o_o big daddy is huge..he gives afeeling of security.

Hmhm thats a problem :] but but... everyone gets shocked a bit. I mean thats the point of survival horror / shocking game stuff.. but yeah maybe you'Re a little easy to scare.. hihi :'D

Gothic 4?
have anyone tried the new gothic 4? Is it worth a try?
Also, how do you think it would work on older machines?
